How we'll rank GOAT Builds
Tested in game, ranked within each position, re-checked after every patch.
- Tested in game. We check every build ourselves and log attributes, height, weight, wingspan and badge limits with the date.
- Position first. A center and a point guard do different jobs, so we rank within each position before building an overall list.
- Clear criteria. Scoring, playmaking, defense, rebounding, body type, and what Badges, Cap Breakers and Takeovers add.
- Unlock cost shown, not scored. A great build behind Legend I still ranks high; we just show you the grind so you can decide.
- Re-checked after patches. Every change goes in the changelog.

Roles to watch at launch
Based on position and how easy they are to get, not stats.
- Day-one bigs: Anthony Davis (PF) and Dwight Howard (C) are the only bigs you can grab on day one.
- Wing-heavy launch: three of the eight day-one builds are small forwards (Carmelo Anthony, Andrei Kirilenko, Kawhi Leonard).
- Oversized guard: Magic Johnson is a PG taller than the normal 6'7" limit.
- Grind-gated guards: Michael Jordan, Derrick Rose, Ray Allen and Anthony Edwards all take REP or Lifetime Challenges.
